This recipe has been passed down for over 70 years, originating in my husband’s grandmother’s kitchen. Gladys baked these buns once a week over 100 at a time and somehow, by week’s end, there were never any left. If you lived under her roof or stopped by for a visit, you were always welcomed with a cup of tea and one of her famous potato buns. It became a quiet tradition in Delta people coming from near and far just to share in her warmth, her table, and her baking.
These buns carry that same spirit forward. Soft, pillowy, and rich with that classic yeasty flavour, they’re the kind of bun that feels both nostalgic and unforgettable. Best enjoyed warm with a generous spread of fresh butter, they’re a simple pleasure done right.
